Jade Beer

Author & Editor

All my career I have been telling stories. First as a junior writer on the Guardian and Independent newspapers in London where I covered arts and culture. Then for the Daily Mail’s lifestyle pages across fashion, beauty, travel and hundreds of real-life stories. Years later it was as an editor of glossy magazines like Glamour and Brides and now as a novelist. Every one of these jobs gave me a brilliant insight into the lives of women from very different backgrounds.

Whether she was the CEO of a multinational company battling daily sexism; a woman planning her wedding following the loss of her mother; one who spent her entire inheritance on expensive cosmetic surgery so she could finally feel beautiful or one who makes bespoke suits for the King of England – all have graciously allowed me to peek inside their private and professional lives.

Imagine sitting opposite a woman you’re meeting for the first time, perhaps one you assume you have absolutely nothing in common with and finding a shared experience or reaching a level of trust that means she will tell you things she may never have voiced before. Imagine inventing characters that will show you the very best and the worst of the female experience, to throw them into impossible situations and decide if they flourish or fail.

I feel so lucky to be earning a living this way. Thank you to every single reader for making it possible.

Today I live in Cheltenham, England with my husband, two daughters and terrier Margot.
